Mayer is a licensed architect and a LEED accredited professional, which signifies core competency in green building principles. She is an alumna of the University of Illinois, where she earned both her bachelor’s degree in architectural studies and master’s degree in architecture. Mayer is committed to supporting women in construction by providing guidance and mentorship to young women entering the field, helping them to navigate the industry.  She is a founding board member of Professional Women in Construction (PWC) Chicago Chapter and PWC National, and a city council member in Geneva, IL.

What PWC Events do you enjoy attending? "PWC events are all so great and I've enjoyed every event I've attended.  I think the DEI events I've attended and participated in have been the most meaningful to me."

Tell about an accomplishment or milestone that you are proud of: "I am proud of my work in my career but most proud of people that I've helped in life and in their own careers.  I think PWC has made a meaningful impact in the industry by providing access to each other for support and mentorship and I'm proud to be part of the organization and a founding board member in Chicago."

Share an important lesson that you have learned during your career: "I have always enjoyed my career in construction because every day I learn something new.  Some lessons come as a result of unfortunate conditions and my most important advice is to fix things the correct way as soon as you realize there is a problem.  It can be difficult to acknowledge and address errors of ourselves and others but in construction, it is critically important that the building is built with quality and integrity.  Difficult conversations are part of the business."

How have your career goals shifted or evolved over time? "I came into the industry thinking I would practice architecture, but I was drawn in by the pace and the sequencing/scheduling of construction activities. I find the contracting side of the business to be the most interesting and fitting for my abilities."
