MICHELLE HERON-MEANS

Director, National Engagement and Leadership / Consolidated Flooring

With over 20 years experience, and backgrounds in commercial real estate, construction, and design, Michelle Heron-Means has worn a lot of hats—and loved every one of them. From architecture firms to general contractors, Michelle has led sales and relationship strategies that connect the dots between big ideas and real impact. At the heart of it all? Building bridges—between business and community, people and purpose.

In recent years, she has doubled down on supplier inclusion and community engagement, working with Chicago Public Schools and many diverse-owned partners to drive equity and opportunity in some of the city’s most impactful projects. Michelle currently sit on the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago Board and is a proud member of Professional Women in Construction (PWC)—two spaces where she stays close to the work that inspires her most: community, collaboration, and creating change.

Michelle claims she is at her best when strategy, relationships, and purpose come together—and when there’s a little room to shake things up for the better.

Tell us why you chose to be a member of PWC Chicago. "I joined PWC because I wanted to be part of a community where women in construction, real estate, and related industries support one another professionally. The mission of PWC really aligns with my values—especially around leadership development, visibility for women in our industry, being leaders in our industry, pathing the way for younger groups of women to come into the industry and being their coaches."

Share about a casual or formal mentorship relationship that you have. "One of the most meaningful mentorship experiences I continue to have are with my own sisters who are very successful in their own right. I can ask the tough questions, get honest feedback, and be challenged to think bigger. I’ve also found mentoring others—whether it’s team members, interns, or peers—just as fulfilling. These relationships keep me grounded, help me reflect on my own journey, and remind me of the importance of lifting others as you grow."

How has networking enhanced your career? "Networking has been one of the most powerful tools in my career. It’s opened doors to new industries, created lasting relationships, and kept me continuously learning. Many of my opportunities—whether landing a new role, growing a client relationship, or stepping into board and community leadership—have come from a genuine connection or a warm introduction. It’s never been about collecting contacts, but about building trust, sharing value, and staying curious about what others are doing in their own personal lives."

What mentorship or networking advice do you have for others? "Be authentic and generous. Be YOURSELF! Don’t wait until you need something to reach out—nurture your network consistently. Share opportunities, celebrate others’ wins, and always follow up with intention. As for mentorship, it doesn’t need to be a formal program or meeting. Sometimes a single conversation can shift your mindset. Stay open to learning from people at all levels and across different industries."
