This 90 minute session will educate attendees on the foundations of Certification by the various agencies (state\, city\, county\, federal) for Women-owned Business\, Minority-owned Business\, and Disadvantaged Business Enterprise. \nNavigating the complex systems of certification can be confusing and overwhelming. With a slideshow presentation and time for questions\, Channing will help attendees gain an understanding of the several certifying agencies\, the timing and process of certification\, and how changes in the law of DEI affects federally funded agencies. About your Facilitator\nChanning Blair Hesse has litigated complex commercial disputes and advised businesses for over 30 years.  She has practiced in state and federal courts\, but primarily in Illinois. Ms. Hesse has a great depth of experience representing companies in the construction industry. She has advised business owners in matters involving government regulations\, contracts\, insurance\, and employment and labor-related issues including representing clients before union trade boards. Ms. Hesse has handled a wide variety of construction matters in court and in arbitration\, including mechanics liens\, delay and defective work claims. She has represented owners\, general contractors\, subcontractors and suppliers. Ms. Hesse is married to Emmett A. Hesse (a Local 265 sheet metal owner). They have three children: a graduate of Indiana University\, a junior at University of Illinois\, and a freshman at University of South Carolina. She grew up in Cedar Rapids\, Iowa and currently resides in Downers Grove\, Illinois. She is a classical pianist\, bikes to work (when the weather is nice!) and loves to travel.
